Jerusalem: Part 1

MSLP has enjoyed a jam packed couple of days inside Jerusalem. 

On Tuesday, after a long nights sleep, the group headed into the centre of town to learn all about the different transport options, including buses and a trip on the light rail.

They then had a walking tour of Machane Yehuda, Ben Yehuda Street and all the wonderful places to eat. Despite the driving rain, they relished the opportunity to see the hustle and bustle of the vibrant city.

On Wednesday, we trooped over to the City of David for a tour of the fascinating history and all the archaeological digs that are happening. After a stunning view of the Mount of Olives, we embarked on an exciting water hike through an underground tunnel, singing merrily in the narrow and dark spaces.

We then walked along a recently discovered pathway from the City of David to the edge of the Temple Mount. It was fascinating to be able to walk the same paths that were walked on by pilgrims to the Temple over 2000 years ago. When we finally reached the end of the tunnel, we emerged at the Davidson Centre, which contains the Southern Wall excavations. There we had a tour of the different ruins that can be seen as well as watched a video recreating what the old city looked like in the days of the temple.

By this stage we were famished and had a sumptuous lunch in the Jewish Quarter. Following that we toured the old city before finally visiting the Kottel and spending some time there. We then walked to a great lookout over the kottel before walking back to the hotel .

We are now off to Kibbutz Ketura for the weekend!

The Beginning!

Finally, we are here! MSLP has officially begun :)

After a short delay in Bangkok, the participants landed safely at Ben Gurion airport. At the airport they were greeted by a couple of hundred Aussies (and some rogelach) welcoming all the program participants to Israel.

We took a bus to Jerusalem and settled into our accommodation in the wonderful surrounds of Kiryat Moriah, our home for the first few days. 

After receiving their rooms, the participants proceeded to blindfold themselves on the walk to the Tayelet (promenade). After slowly making their way, with a few missteps and broken chains along the way, they were rewarded with spectacular views over the the entire breadth of Jerusalem. A le'chaim was made and some fun games played.

After returning to Kiryat Moriah, an impromptu game of soccer was played until well after nightfall. Tired and exhausted after a long couple of days of travelling and touring, we are having an early night to freshen up, ready to make the most of an amazing 6 months :)
